Johor is expecting an economic impact worth RM42.48 billion from its targeted 12 million tourists by the end of this year.
Ravenkumar Krishnasamy, chairman of the Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee, made this statement answering questions at the Fifth Session of the 15th Johor State Assembly on 4th May 2026.
“The performance of the Johor tourism sector has shown extraordinary momentum for the first three months of this year.”
“As of March 2026, Johor has recorded an influx of 6,077,194 visitors, recording an increase compared to the same period last year.”
He cited the recent Asia Record’s recognition of Tourism Johor for the highest arrival of international visitors via land routes as a proud moment, further strengthening the state’s position as the country’s main tourism gateway.
The diversity of tourism products continues to be strengthened with various new unique attractions for visitors. Among the highlights is the Johor Night Zoo, which has started operating since March 2026, while the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex and Johor Heroes Museum are scheduled to be launched this June.
In a statement, he also announced plans to connect iconic destinations such as the Johor Zoo and Kota Jail in a more efficient and tourist-friendly manner through the Johor Tourism Bus initiative, which will facilitate tourist movement throughout Johor Bahru.
“Fans of outdoor activities and nature can now explore the upgraded facilities at the MBJB City Forest, which include a zipline and a new water park.”
“Furthermore, ecotourism development in Kampung Sungai Melayu, Tanjung Piai National Park, and Gunung Ledang remains a major draw for those seeking authentic experiences.”
He wrapped up his statement by inviting the public to over 100 exciting events planned throughout the year and experience the distinct identity and heritage of Johor with the Visit Johor Year 2026 tagline “Mehlah Johor” or “Come visit Johor”.
