Following the death of a Year two female student who was hit by a van in front of a Batu Pahat school on 5th May 2026, the Johor State Government will form a special committee to investigate school safety issues.
Aznan Tamin, chairman of the State Education and Information Committee, stated that, in addition to investigating the cause of the incident, the special committee would focus on improving existing safety guidelines and coordinating the implementation of safety measures across the state.
“This committee will also support the implementation of the Safe Schools Campaign, which includes not only road safety but also student safety on school grounds,” he said, as reported in Bernama, following a session of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) at the Sultan Ismail Building.
Aznan stated that the District Education Office (PPD) was also reminded to tighten control over vehicles entering and exiting school grounds by adhering to the established standard operating procedures (SOP).
To avoid potential hazards, he stated that all vehicles entering the school grounds must register at the security post and follow the established guidelines.
Since 1999, safety guidelines for vehicle movement in schools have been implemented and are constantly updated to reflect current needs.
The state government will further streamline the guidelines, including the implementation of the Safe School Campaign, which is set to launch early next month and will address issues such as student movement, traffic control, and safety on school grounds.
