Johor has had one of the highest enrolment registrations for six-year-olds entering Year One for the 2027 academic year under the Malaysia Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035.

According to Bernama, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has stated that within two weeks of registration opening, nearly 50,000 applications were received nationwide for the enrolment of children aged six, and Johor is emerging as one of the leading contributors.

She added that the figure is an early positive signal because it is part of the RPM implementation, which establishes mandatory targets to be met within ten years.

“When Johor became among the states with the highest figure in terms of registration, it showed that parents are ready to commit and have confidence in the system that is being implemented,” she told a media conference after the ‘Jaulah Ramadan Komuniti 2026’ Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Maahad Muar.

According to Fadhlina, although the registration period ends on 31st March, the ministry will continue to accept applications after that date to give parents more time to make their decision.

She went on to say that the ministry had anticipated up to 700,000 registrations and that extensive planning was underway, including infrastructure planning and teacher recruitment.

“Although preparations are being made at the highest level, the latest development enables the ministry to draw up more detailed planning according to states and schools based on registration patterns,” she said.

She explained that Year One registration for 2027 is more than just a routine process; it is part of the RPM implementation, which focuses on improving education quality and empowering students.

The ministry is also stepping up the implementation of the Tekad Reformasi Pendidikan Programme (Tekad), which serves as a platform for ongoing briefings and engagement to ensure that the RPM’s message and goals are fully understood.

Fadhlina stated that the process of explaining and engaging will not end with the registration period but will continue on a regular basis to strengthen support for policy implementation.
