Yayasan Johor Corporation (Yayasan JCorp) has reinforced its commitment to shaping future-ready talent with the organisation of the Sustainable School – STEM Symposium 2026, a flagship programme designed to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and sustainability-driven learning among schools in Johor.

Held at Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor, the symposium marks the culmination of a multi-year initiative that began in 2023 and was implemented in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), the Singapore National Institute of Education (NIE), and the Temasek Foundation.

The programme brought together 300 participants, comprising educators, policymakers, and strategic partners, to showcase real-world STEM solutions that combine technical innovation with sustainability awareness.

A key highlight of the symposium was the prototype showcase and competition, featuring teacher-led innovations from five participating schools, namely SMK Bandar Baru Uda, SMK Telok Kerang, SMK Bandar Penawar, SMK Buluh Kasap, and SMK Seri Medan.

Each school presented practical solutions developed through structured training and classroom implementation, demonstrating how STEM education can be translated into meaningful, real-life applications.

Designed to deliver measurable and lasting outcomes, the initiative showcased 7 teacher-led prototypes while encouraging schools to adopt hands-on, project-based STEM learning approaches. It also strengthened partnerships between local and international education stakeholders and supported educators in implementing innovative practices within their respective schools.

Speaking on the initiative, Dato’ Mizan Yahya, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan JCorp, said, “Education must go beyond textbooks. It must equip our students to think critically, solve real-world challenges, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

“This symposium reflects what can be achieved when strong partnerships come together with a shared vision. By combining global expertise with local implementation, we are not only strengthening STEM education but also nurturing a generation that is ready to lead with innovation, responsibility, and purpose,” he continued.

“At Yayasan JCorp, we remain committed to empowering educators and students as part of our role as the ‘Membela’ arm of Johor Corporation, delivering meaningful and sustainable outcomes through education,” he said.

The symposium also marked an important milestone with the signing of a Heads of Agreement between Yayasan JCorp and Petrosains, strengthening strategic collaboration to expand STEM learning opportunities and innovation-driven programmes.

The symposium also featured expert-led sharing sessions by the Singapore National Institute of Education and provided opportunities for collaboration among educators, institutions, and industry partners, further reinforcing Yayasan JCorp’s role as a catalyst for education transformation.

As the dedicated “Membela” arm of Johor Corporation (JCorp), Yayasan JCorp translates the group’s commitment to improving environmental and social well-being through impactful initiatives, expanding opportunity across Johor and Malaysia.
