Yayasan Johor Coraporation (Yayasan JCorp) took another significant step in advancing sustainability through education with the launch of its seventh Smart Farming Greenhouse at SMK Seri Kota Puteri 2, Masai, Johor.

The initiative reflects Yayasan JCorp’s continued commitment to nurturing environmental awareness and equipping students with practical knowledge of sustainable agriculture through hands-on learning experiences.

Developed under the Sustainable School (Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor) STEM programme, the Smart Farming Greenhouse was incepted in 2025 and serves as a hands-on learning facility that integrates modern agricultural technology with classroom learning.

Equipped with Internet of Things–enabled systems, the greenhouse allows real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, irrigation flow and plant health, introducing students to data-driven farming practices in a STEM maker-space environment.

At SMK Seri Kota Puteri 2, the greenhouse functions as a key enabler in promoting sustainability, enhancing awareness, and supporting the integration of sustainable practices across the community.

Teachers and students are actively involved in the programme, with teachers facilitating hands-on learning activities and students participating throughout the entire cultivation cycle, from planting to harvesting.

This collaborative approach fosters a deeper understanding of food systems, efficient resource use and environmental stewardship. The project also supports school-based activities and community engagement through entrepreneurship days, where students sell their harvest and gain hands-on experience in sustainability and entrepreneurship.

According to Dato’ Mizan Yahya, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan JCorp, the programme reflects the foundation’s belief that education is a shared responsibility.

“This greenhouse is more than a learning facility. It is a platform that brings together students, teachers and the surrounding community. When schools become centres of practical knowledge and collaboration, the impact extends well beyond the classroom,” he said.

Dato’ Mizan added that strategic partnerships are critical to the long‑term success of the programme.

“Johor Plantation Group contributes essential agricultural expertise to ensure effective greenhouse operations, while Waqaf An‑Nur strengthens the social dimension through its wakaf‑driven approach. Together, these partnerships ensure the programme remains relevant, sustainable and impactful for students and the wider community.”

Beyond Johor Bahru, Yayasan JCorp has established Smart Farming Greenhouses in six other schools across Johor, including Batu Pahat and Segamat. The expansion reflects Yayasan JCorp’s commitment to providing students throughout the state with access to innovative STEM and sustainability-focused learning opportunities while nurturing greater environmental awareness through hands-on agricultural education.

Dato’ Mizan concluded by reaffirming the broader vision behind the initiative.

“Every greenhouse we establish is an investment in both people and communities. More than just a learning facility, it serves as a platform for innovation, collaboration and sustainable development, empowering students with the knowledge, values and confidence needed to become responsible leaders and contributors to a more resilient future.’’

As the dedicated “Membela” arm of Johor Corporation (JCorp), Yayasan JCorp translates the group’s commitment to improving environmental and social well-being through impactful initiatives across Johor and Malaysia.
