Saravanan Krishnan, a veteran lawyer and community volunteer, will become the 75th President of the Rotary Club of Johor Bahru (RCJB), bringing with him a strong commitment to humanitarian service, youth development, and community empowerment.

Saravanan will succeed outgoing President Chin Kuie Too and take over leadership of one of Johor Bahru’s longest-serving service organisations at the official installation ceremony on 27th June 2026.

Having joined the club in 2018, Saravanan has been actively involved in a wide range of initiatives, including flood relief operations, educational assistance programmes, environmental projects and medical outreach efforts. He describes the presidency not as a personal achievement but as a responsibility to continue the club’s long-standing tradition of serving those in need.

Saravanan shared that, one of his earliest experiences in community service left a lasting impression when he participated in aid distribution for flood victims. The gratitude expressed by affected families reinforced his belief that meaningful service extends beyond material assistance and often provides emotional reassurance to people facing difficult circumstances.

Raised in Kluang, Saravanan credits his late father, a school headmaster known for his community involvement, for instilling in him the values of compassion and public service. Those lessons, he said, continue to guide his approach to leadership and volunteerism.

As President, Saravanan plans to strengthen several of RCJB’s flagship initiatives, including the Bag 2 School programme, which provides educational necessities to underprivileged students. He also aims to expand educational support projects, promote environmental sustainability programmes and create more leadership opportunities for young people.

Environmental initiatives under his leadership are expected to include beach clean-ups, mangrove restoration efforts and support for renewable energy awareness projects. He has also pledged continued support for the club’s dialysis centre and international humanitarian missions.

Founded in 1951, the Rotary Club of Johor Bahru has played a significant role in community development over the decades. Its contributions include educational facilities, youth programmes, healthcare services and humanitarian missions both within Malaysia and abroad.

Saravanan believes service organisations must do more to engage younger generations by offering meaningful leadership roles and hands-on opportunities to contribute. He noted that many young volunteers have demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment when entrusted with real responsibilities during community projects.

As Johor Bahru continues to experience rapid growth and development, Saravanan said it is important not to overlook vulnerable groups within the society, including low-income families, dialysis patients, senior citizens living alone and young people facing mental and emotional challenges.

He emphasised that genuine community service often takes place away from public attention and that the true measure of success lies in the positive impact made on individual lives.

Looking ahead, Saravanan hopes his tenure will be remembered not for titles or ceremonies, but for strengthening the Rotary Club’s mission of compassion, service and community building. He said even small acts of kindness can create lasting change and inspire hope among those who need it most.

His presidency will run through 2027
