Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a subsidiary of MMC Port Holdings Berhad (MMC Ports), successfully collected approximately 1,065 kilogrammes (kg) of used textiles and clothing as part of the Environmental Care Awareness Campaign.

The Johor Port community organised the initiative between 12th and 18th March 2026, with the goal of advancing the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) 2026 agenda, according to a statement from Johor Port.

The used clothing and textiles were collected at a designated collection hub at the Oasis facility in the Johor Port region prior to being divided and distributed.

“In addition to environmental conservation, this initiative has a strong humanitarian component. Items that are still good and can be worn will be distributed to communities in need,” the statement said.

Before being transported to a fabric recycling facility in Port Klang, Selangor, the used apparel and textiles in poor condition would be delivered to the Kloth Malaysia collection warehouse in Johor Bahru.

The textile waste would be turned into processed fuel, industrial wipers, and other sustainable materials, according to the statement.

In the same statement, Md. Derick Basir, the CEO of Johor Port Berhad, stated that ESG is about making a significant impact rather than just meeting goals.

He stated that the initiative demonstrates how simple actions can collectively reduce the environmental impact while empowering communities.

Datuk Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Group CEO of MMC Port Holdings Berhad, stated that the initiative reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to incorporate ESG principles into all aspects of its port operations.

“This fosters sustainable and inclusive growth,” he said.
