With growing awareness to live a little greener one step at a time, IKEA Malaysia has joined in the fun by providing a delicious and sustainable alternative that is entirely plant-based.
The Iskandarian had the pleasure of having a taste of IKEA Malaysia’s newest menu item, the all-new IKEA plant ball.
Made with yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion and apple, it is an amazing experience in the mouth where the meat-like texture is still there, making you think it was made of chicken.
It is even more exciting that the plant ball was designed to be more sustainable and have a lesser environmental impact with only 4% of the climate impact of the usual meatballs and this is helping IKEA’s objective to become climate positive by 2030.
This tantalising alternative to the meatball-like appearance is now available in all IKEA shops nationwide starting from 8th May 2023.

The move is also in line with the company’s commitment to reduce the climate footprint of the IKEA food business.
“By 2025, we aim to make 50% of our restaurants’ main meals plant-based. In FY2022, we sold more than 27 million meatballs in Malaysia. Adding the plant ball to our line-up of offerings and converting some of meatball sales to plant balls will bring us a step closer to reaching our sustainability goals,” Malcolm added.

Customers may now enjoy the plant ball with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and Lingonberry jam at all IKEA locations in the country, expanding the company’s plant-based cuisine choices. A variety of plant ball meals are also available for a reasonable price of RM5.90 and up.
