Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) winners’ Ihsan Johor and Yayasan Kebajikan Suria (YKS) are coming together for the “N.A.S.I. Project.”
“N.A.S.I. Project: Nasi Asih Suria Ihsan” with “Asih” meaning compassion or kindness in Malay, reflecting the spirit of compassion and kindness in providing affordable meals to the needy during the month of fasting,” said Ihsan Johor’s CEO, Farrah Faridah Baptist, when asked what the abbreviation means, with Suria representing YKS and Ihsan, a short form of Ihsan Johor.
The project will not only provide hot food to the needy but will also pay wages for the cooks to create a purely charitable ecosystem.
One hundred packets of cooked food are targeted for distribution daily, and the meals are planned to be nutritious with one protein and one serving of vegetables with curry or sambal. They would start cooking at noon daily and start giving out the food by approximately 4.30 p.m.
Provision will be on a first-come-first-served basis around Johor Bahru, and it is planned to increase the number of food packets to 200.
“We already have four cooks for this project who are made up of a widow, a single mother, an OKU, and someone from a B40 background,” Farrah further explained how the N.A.S.I. Project ecosystem works in full circle.
The project is set to launch on the first day of the fasting month; 12th March 2024, and they have menus ready until 17th March 2024.
Farrah also welcomes interested parties to join in the N.A.S.I. Project effort to help feed more people in need while also helping needy people earn some wages.
