Yayasan Johor Corporation (Yayasan JCorp), in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department, brought together 440 students from 22 schools across the state for the Johor State Level Choral Speaking Competition 2026.
Hosted at SJK (C) Chong Hwa, Kluang, the annual competition saw primary and secondary school teams representing every district in Johor take to the stage in a showcase of English-language proficiency, creativity, discipline and collective performance.
Centred on the theme “United Voices, Resounding Peace and With Words We Break, With Words We Mend”, this year’s competition called on students to explore the power of language in shaping understanding, healing divisions and inspiring positive action.
The event was officiated by Yayasan JCorp Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Mizan Yahya.
“Education must go beyond academic achievement. It must equip young people with the confidence to express themselves, the creativity to solve problems and the character to lead,” said Dato’ Mizan.
“Choral speaking gives students a meaningful opportunity to develop these qualities. It teaches them to listen to one another, work towards a shared goal and communicate with clarity, conviction and purpose.”
He said Johor’s strong record in the competition reflected the commitment of its students, educators and schools.
“Last year, Johor’s primary school champion went on to win the national title. We are proud of that achievement and hopeful that this year’s state champions, in both primary and secondary categories, will continue Johor’s momentum on the national stage,” he added.
Performances were assessed by experienced adjudicators based on language proficiency, vocal delivery, interpretation, creativity, teamwork and overall presentation. Winning teams received cash prizes, trophies and certificates, while the champions in both categories will represent Johor at the National Choral Speaking Competition.
The event drew approximately 730 teachers, parents, students and members of the public, underlining strong community support for platforms that broaden learning beyond the classroom.
The competition is among Yayasan JCorp’s flagship education initiatives, alongside the Akademi Dalam Industri (ADI), Smart Farming Greenhouse and English Tuition Project. These programmes support students in building academic foundations, future-oriented capabilities and the confidence to realise their potential.
