World Chef Championship (WCC), a world-class competition in Malaysia, hosted its 2024 edition in the PERSADA International Convention Centre, Johor, for three days from the 16th to the 18th of May 2024, with participants from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, the United States, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions of the world.

Officiated by Johor’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the first day saw the championship breaking World Guiness Book of Record for the most Johor-style Mee Goreng prepared, weighing 667.7kg with 86 local and international chefs involved in its making.

“..Without doubt too, this competition is also important to Johor, as it will allow us to showcase to all the international delegates representing the tourism industry from various parts of the world, what Johor, Malaysia, has to offer. Beyond that, it is an opportunity for our industry’s stakeholders to explore new strategies and approaches to ensure we remain competitive and relevant on the international stage,” Onn Hafiz, in his officiating speech, said.

“This tournament is not just a competition, but also a platform to interact and share knowledge and experiences. I believed that through this exchange of culinary knowledge and expertise, we can enrich the food culture of each country with the latest discoveries and innovations. This will help shape our global presence, which increasingly unites the whole world through the taste and diversity of food,” he added.

The second edition of the WCC, which was jointly organised with Tourism Johor, also broke the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the ‘Largest Participation in a World Chefs’ Championship Competition’, with 1,790 chefs taking part.
