The Straits Resorts Medini is positioned as a wellness-focused senior living resort in Medini, Johor, with spa and other wellness facilities as part of its offering. The Straits Spa officially opened its doors recently, with an elegant afternoon celebration that brought together approximately 60 invited guests for an immersive experience inspired by the rich heritage of Baba Nyonya culture.
The launch event demonstrated The Straits Resorts’ dedication to crafting unique visitor experiences that honour the region’s cultural heritage by skilfully fusing traditional Malaysian artistry, hospitality, wellness, and culinary experiences.
Guests arrived dressed in beautiful Nyonya Kebaya attire, creating a vibrant and colourful setting befitting the occasion. The atmosphere was one of warmth and celebration as guests gathered to mark the official opening of The Straits Spa and discover a new dimension of wellness at The Straits Resorts Medini.
The programme commenced with an addressing speech by Elvira Tan, Founder & CEO of The Straits Resorts Pte Ltd, who welcomed guests and shared her vision for The Straits Spa as a destination where relaxation, hospitality, culture and artistry come together.
Her address was followed by a special message from Karen Leow of Mama Glow, The Straits Spa’s valued partner, who spoke on the importance of wellness and the shared commitment to creating meaningful experiences for guests.
The official opening ceremony was marked by a ceremonial ribbon cutting, led by Elvira Tan and Karen Leow. The ceremony formally marked the opening of The Straits Spa and its invitation to guests to embark on a journey of relaxation and rejuvenation.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to explore The Straits Spa and discover its concept of ‘the art of wellness.’ Visitors were introduced to the artistry and philosophy behind the Spa’s signature massage therapies, with an opportunity to experience first-hand the care, techniques and attention to detail that underpin its wellness offering.
A special feature of the opening was the opportunity for guests to enjoy complimentary 15-minute massage treatments, allowing them to sample the Spa experience. Selected guests were also treated to an exclusive one-hour massage therapy, providing a deeper and more immersive introduction to the Spa’s signature treatments.
The afternoon continued at The Straits Brasserie, where a sumptuous Peranakan High Tea was specially laid out for guests. Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of the Peranakan community, the spread complemented the Nyonya theme of the celebration and provided guests with an opportunity to savour a selection of delicacies in an elegant setting.
One of the most anticipated moments of the celebration was a captivating live performance by renowned Dapur Diva celebrity, Chef Shirley Tay.

Known for her engaging approach to Peranakan food and culture, Chef Shirley Tay entertained guests with a lively singing performance with songs of the 60’s before demonstrating how to prepare a traditional salad known as Nasi Ulam. The interactive segment brought together music, storytelling and culinary heritage, offering guests a memorable taste of Malaysia’s rich food culture.
Guests had the opportunity to win attractive lucky draw prizes such as spa, rooms and dining vouchers, giving guests the opportunity to continue their experience at The Straits Resorts beyond the opening event.
The celebration concluded on a warm and appreciative note, with every guest receiving a special token of appreciation to take home. Guests also had the opportunity to purchase specially curated Spa vouchers at exclusive opening-day promotional rates.
With its emphasis on personalised wellness, signature massage therapies and thoughtful hospitality, The Straits Spa aims to offer its residents and guests a sanctuary where they can pause, reconnect and experience the restorative qualities of wellness in an environment inspired by the beauty and heritage of the region.
