Your Healthcare Buddy 2.0

The community healthcare initiative “Your Healthcare Buddy 2.0”, organised by the Rotary Satellite Club of Batu Pahat – Insight, was successfully held on 31st May 2026 at BP Mall, Johor. Building on the success of its inaugural edition, this second instalment expanded its scope and scale, and was jointly conducted with Community Madani Penggaram and the DAP Wanita under the programme titled “531 Health Screening and Blood Donation”. The event provided comprehensive and free basic health screenings and consultations to the public, receiving an overwhelming response.

The event attracted strong participation from community members of all age groups. Many attendees shared that the programme not only enhanced their understanding of their own health conditions but also increased awareness of preventive healthcare. Senior citizens, in particular, expressed high appreciation for the accessibility of professional and complimentary health screening services.

Guided by the principle that “prevention is better than cure,” the initiative brought together a team of professional Rotarian healthcare practitioners and volunteers to deliver five core health services: Eye Care, Dental Care, Hearing Care, Mental Care, and Physio Care. All services were provided exclusively by members of the club, entirely free of charge, with no commercial elements involved, reflecting a true commitment to people-centred community service.

Participating Rotarians included Rotarian Angeline Hoo (Hakka Optical), Rotarian Gan Fei Huan (Spine Solution Batu Pahat), Rotarian Quah Way Chien (One Small Step Counselling), Rotarian Shawna Chiew Zhi Shuen (Shawna Physio), Rotarian Dr Soh Yi Qun (Klinik Pergigian Tooth Fairy Dental), Rotarian Dr Siti Salmiah Mohd Yunus (Klinik Pergigian L’Medina), Rotarian Maryam Jameelah Noh (J&J Optometry Batu Pahat), Rotarian Lai Ming Min (Moonlight Psychological Counselling), Rotarian Teng Pei Xin (Olive Design Studio), and Rotarian Nor Izzati Nadhirah Binti Hasin (Audiolab).

Organising Chair and Charter President, Rotarian Angeline Hoo, stated that “Your Healthcare Buddy” is a flagship initiative of the club and a long-term effort to promote community health awareness. She emphasised that the club is committed to continuing and expanding this initiative to foster a healthier and more health-conscious community, where caring for one’s well-being becomes a daily habit. Moving forward, the Rotary Satellite Club of Batu Pahat – Insight will continue to develop impactful community projects, in line with Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self.”

Vice Organising Chair and Vice President, Rotarian Dr Siti Salmiah Mohd Yunus, remarked that the official launch was a great success. She highlighted the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the female members of the club, who worked tirelessly to serve the community. She expressed optimism about reaching more people and making an even greater impact in the future.

Vice Organising Chair and Secretary, Rotarian Teng Pei Xin, shared that the Rotary Satellite Club of Batu Pahat – Insight is made up of a team of ten young female professionals in the healthcare field, united by a shared vision to protect community health through professionalism, passion, and action. She noted that a compassionate community is built by individuals willing to give, and that every successful event reflects the collective effort, time, and dedication of the team. She further emphasised that service does not end in a day, and care never ceases. The club will continue to give back to the community through its professional expertise, ensuring that health and compassion are continuously passed on.

In addition, the event brought together the collective strength of Rotarians and volunteers, exemplifying Rotary’s core values of service and humanitarianism. During the event, the club also officially announced the establishment of “Friends of Rotary”, welcoming members of the public who are interested in learning more about Rotary’s mission and community service to get involved. Organisations and groups that share similar values and are interested in collaboration are encouraged to reach out. The club looks forward to working hand in hand with the community to contribute towards a healthier Batu Pahat.
