The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) expects the Traveller Scheme to be presented to the Cabinet soon before being introduced in the next Parliament session as part of the country’s social protection reforms.

Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, Minister of Human Resources, made the announcement while delivering the keynote address at the LINDUNG Kerjaya MADANI (Protecting Career MADANI) Carnival of the LINDUNG SOCSO Tour, which was held at the Kempas State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in Johor Bahru.

The Traveller Scheme is a new initiative aimed at bridging the social protection gap for Malaysians working abroad, particularly the approximately 480,000 Malaysians who commute between Johor and Singapore each day.

Eligible individuals will be able to benefit from various SOCSO social security benefits as protection under Act 789 or the LINDUNG Kendiri Scheme is expanded.

At the same event, the Minister highlighted the encouraging performance of the Johor labour market, which has an unemployment rate of 2.4%, lower than the national rate of 2.9%. The Johor Labour Force Participation Rate (KPTB) also reached 71.6%, exceeding the national average of 70.9%.

He also stated that the MYFutureJobs portal remains an important tool for strengthening the country’s job market. In the first six months of 2026, 66,661 job openings were advertised in Johor, and 161,893 people were successfully placed in jobs via the platform.

This time, the MADANI LINDUNG Kerjaya Carnival brought together 20 employers offering over 2,000 job opportunities, including highly skilled positions with monthly salaries of up to RM16,000.

The programme also offers job seekers a variety of support services such as career counselling, skill profiling, and career development guidance.
