On Sunday, 24th of September 2023, a group of charitable bikers surprised the nearby villagers from the Johor Plantations Berhad (Johor Plantations) Basir Ismail estate in Ulu Tiram by paying them a visit and bringing them #JPBerkat food aid and monetary donations.

“I was told by my supervisor that there would be people coming to visit, but I did not expect this many in my humble home,” said Jalil Sulaiman, 59, one of the recipients. It really is a blessing.

Jalil has been parenting his two disabled children, Sabirah and Samsudin, who have paralysis and seizures, since 1994 while working as a fieldworker for Johor Plantations at the Basir Ismail estate. Both youngsters need caregiving for the rest of their lives.

“I am very thankful to be one of the recipients in today’s programme. Any aid, no matter how small, will help me in caring for Sabirah and Samsudin,” he said after receiving the contributions from Amran Zakaria, the Head of the Human Capital Division of Johor Plantations. Two other recipients were villagers Leha Puteh from Kg Air Putih and Suriani Sohot from Kg Sg Jempol, who live adjacent to the estate.

Amran oversaw the #JPBerkat charity cycling program, a CSR project run by Johor Plantations, which gave out aid to 60 deserving people in celebration of Malaysia Day’s 60th anniversary. Volunteer cyclists from the High Castle Cyclists Kota Tinggi, Sungai Redan Cycling Club, and Johor Plantations’ Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi Tiram completed a 10-kilometer route in the neighborhood, stopping three times to deliver #JPBerkat on the company’s own Badang, a mechanical buffalo made by its subsidiary JPG Jenterra.

“By organising this programme, we aim to foster love for our beloved country by strengthening community relations and instilling a spirit of patriotism while promoting a healthy and nurturing lifestyle,” he said at Johor Plantations eco-retreat near Sungai Johor, where the rest of the recipients from various backgrounds received the contributions.

The primary CSR initiative of Johor Plantations, #JPBerkat, aims to elevate underserved areas and promote a spirit of giving. This program showcases Johor Plantations’ dedication to its basic principles and its role as a respectable corporate citizen who makes a positive contribution to society.
