The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day for the Johor state election on 11th July 2026, while polling for the Negeri Sembilan state election will be held on 1st August 2026.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said nomination day for the Johor state election has been fixed for 27th June 2026, with early voting for the Johor polls taking place on 7th July 2026.

He said this at a press conference after chairing a special meeting to discuss the arrangements and key dates for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls.

Ramlan stated that the campaign period for both state elections has been set at 14 days, beginning with the declaration of candidates and ending at 11.59 p.m. on the eve of polling day.

He said nomination proceedings for the Johor polls will be held at 56 nomination centres.

On implementation costs, Ramlan said the 16th Johor state election is estimated to require an allocation of RM86.8 million.

He stated that 2.7 million ordinary voters will vote in Johor, with 24,751 military and police personnel and their spouses participating in early voting.

“They will vote at 64 early voting centres in Johor and 38 early voting centres in Negeri Sembilan,” he said.

“For postal voting matters, applications for both domestic and overseas categories for the Johor state election have been open since 5th June 2026, while for Negeri Sembilan they opened today (12th June 2026),” he said.

Ramlan stated that the deadline for postal voting applications for Category 1A (election workers, police, military personnel, and media) in Johor is 24th June 2026, and 15th July 2026 in Negeri Sembilan.

The closing dates for Category IB (Malaysian citizens living abroad) and IC (agencies or organisations) are 19th June 2026 in Johor and 10th July 2026 in Negeri Sembilan.

He stated that the EC will appoint 42,971 people for the Johor state election, which will include 1,076 ordinary polling centres and 4,889 polling streams.

Ramlan also reminded voters to check their polling centre information, stream, and voter number using the mysprsemak.spr.gov.my portal, the MYSPR Semak app, or by calling the EC hotline at 03-8892 7218.

He said that the EC is appointing election observers from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and other interested parties to monitor the election process from nomination day to the announcement of results.

“They are permitted to observe at nomination centres, polling centres, counting centres, and the official vote tallying centre, but must adhere to all appointment conditions established by the EC,” he stated.

The 56-seat Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 1st June 2026, and the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 5th June 2026.
