Bread manufacturer Gardenia Foods Pte Ltd has announced that it will relocate its bakery production operations from its manufacturing facility in Pandan Loop, Singapore, to Johor Bahru.

The company, in a statement, said the move is part of ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and remain competitive amid a challenging global business environment. Production at the Pandan Loop facility will cease on 30th June 2026.

Gardenia was reportedly said to provide fair compensation and sponsor of one year of union membership, while the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) will offer career and job matching support for all its 141 employees that are retrenched.

“Gardenia informed employees of the decision at an internal meeting and said affected staff will receive the appropriate notice period and support in line with local regulations and guidelines,” the company said in a media release, according to a report from Channel News Asia.

“The company is also considering eligible employees for suitable roles within the group’s network of operations where possible,” it added.

The Edge Malaysia reported that the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU), an affiliate of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), said it was informed early of the restructuring and is supporting affected workers with training, job placement and retrenchment assistance.

CNA said that Gardenia further stated the company’s main hub for important tasks like brand management, product development, quality and regulatory oversight, daily distribution, and supply chain operations will remain in Singapore, where it will retain roughly 250 employees following the changeover.

Additionally, its Singapore team will continue to supervise quality governance and guarantee adherence to regulations established by the Health Promotion Board and the Singapore Food Agency

In 1985, Gardenia was acquired by QAF Ltd, a Singapore Stock Exchange-listed company. Since then, the group has gradually increased its presence throughout the Asia-Pacific area, operating bakeries in nations like Malaysia, the Philippines, and Australia.
