Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) is dedicated to promoting education and believes that fostering the next generation is essential to creating a community that is both inclusive and sustainable. IIB had organised their “Back to School” programme for underprivileged students, which is another opportunity for the company to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

One of the zakat programmes run by Majlis Agama Islam Johor (MAIJ), IIB’s Wakalah Fund is what made this programme possible (MAIJ). The “Back to School” initiative designated 276 underprivileged kids from 2 primary schools and 2 secondary schools in Iskandar Puteri to receive aid at the handover ceremony held at the Educity Complex 1. The initiative gave a total of RM102,000 to the schools to be used for managing financial aid and providing much-needed resources and opportunity for underprivileged pupils.

IIB is aware that many local students do not have access to the fundamental materials they need for their education, including textbooks, school supplies, and technology. IIB believes that every student deserves a fair shot to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Speaking about the initiative, Dato’ Idzham Hashim, President & Chief Executive Officer of IIB said, “We are proud to support these schools and the important work they do to educate the next generation of leaders. Our contribution is a small gesture of our appreciation for the tireless efforts of the teachers and staffs. We hope that this contribution will help provide students with the resources they need to succeed in their academic careers and beyond.”

He added, “This programme is aimed to ease the parents’ burden as well as to motivate, inspire and encourage the students to stay in school and giving them the same level opportunity for them succeed in their studies.”

The programme is part of IIB’s commitment to supporting the United Nations SDG 4: Quality Education, in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all levels of society. This reaffirms IIB’s aspiration towards building a sustainable ecosystem and community prosperity in Iskandar Puteri.

As a catalytic developer for Iskandar Puteri, IIB has been playing its part in developing the Johor State through its focused core business units, mainly Property Development, Property Investment, Education and Ecosystem Building. For more than 16 years, IIB has provided soft infrastructure through job creation, business opportunities for entrepreneurs, talent development and elevating the quality of life of the people of Iskandar Puteri.

“The young generation not only represents the future of our Nation but is one of society’s main agents of change and progress. As education is one of IIB’s Focused Core business units, we understand the need for equity-first, inclusive strategies to address the social and structural barriers in education,” added Idzham.

The “Back to School” handover ceremony was made more meaningful with IIB organising an interactive and exciting education tour of EduCity Education Partner’s campus, giving the students an idea of their future pathways.
