An Engagement of Potentials at Breakfast Talk on Halal Industry

Industry players and interested agents keeping tabs on the huge opportunities ahead of them

Johor State Investment Centre together with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia organised a Breakfast Talk on Halal Industry at Amari Johor Bahru hotel.

Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, the Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia, said during his welcoming speech that the talk intended to highlight the latest updates in the Halal industry, business opportunities and the latest development in infrastructures at Iskandar Halal Park, formerly known as Johor Halal Park, a subsidiary of UMLand Bhd which focuses in developing the Halal Sector.

Jimmy Puah Wee Tse, the State International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee Chairman in his welcoming speech told the attendees, “According to SME annual report 2007, the United Nations has even cited Malaysia as the benchmark of halal industry. This is because we have one halal standard adopted throughout the country which resulted in Malaysia’s standard basis of development of the world’s halal food.”

“The growth of the halal industry continues to be phenomenal at the global level as halal is fast becoming the new benchmark for quality, health, hygiene and safety and a lot of countries has tapped into the halal market as a national strategy and recognising its immense potential”, said Ahmad Lokman Ibrahim as the CEO of Iskandar Halal Park in ‘Gateway to The Global Halal Market’ segment of the seminar.

Kerry’s Process and Technical Manager, Aidarafidah Amran, shared the experience of the company in global food ingredients in the ‘Halal Journey’ section where she said they took more than 20 years to perfect their halal research and development and spent around RM60,000 for halal certification, knowing the exorbitant potential outcome by investing in the halal manufacturing industry.
