DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru presented a different side of peninsular Malaysia for its buka puasa buffet this year with Minang cuisine, the one rooted in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
Known for its heat and spices, the Minangkabau’s speciality is brought over to their Makan Kitchen for this year’s Ramadan buffet to honour the rich culinary heritage with a variety of traditional dishes as well as its fusion.
To start, their Sous Vide Wagyu Rump with Tamarind Glaze and Ginger Crumble is definitely popular among diners that it ran out pretty fast. The crispiness on the outside and its succulent, tender meat on the inside is so addictive, you’d find yourself wanting more.
Check out their special Nasi Kuning Kambing Buluh, literally cooked in bamboo tubes in a steamer, for that experience of flavourful rice to have with iconic dishes like the Udang Ketak Membara Madu Kerisik and the crowd’s favourite, the beef leg, which was said to have been slow-cooked for 12 hours to aromatic perfection.
Besides that, the sought-after Seafood on the Ice is also available in its buffet too – fresh-
from-the-sea enjoyment. People with shellfish allergies like me can enjoy the tuna sashimi with a controlled amount of wasabi to clear your sinusitis. If you’re still in the Chinese New Year’s mood, remember to drop by the Chinese section and try its highlights for that day.
I concluded my meal for the day with the delicious fresh-cut fruits with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, while enjoying their live band performances that is said to be available daily.
