The Johor Royal Family Media and Communications Office (Royal Press Office) warned the public about generative AI deepfakes of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim found in various TikTok accounts.

The Royal Press Office, through Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s official Facebook page, said that the fake accounts featured the voice of His Majesty supposedly relating to financial assistance in conjunction with Ramadan to the public.

“In this regard, the public is advised to be vigilant and not be easily influenced by these fake accounts which are often used by ‘scammers’ for fraudulent purposes on social media platforms,” the statement said.

“The Royal Press Office would like to emphasise that impersonation and identity theft are criminal offences,” the statement concluded.

Earlier, Johor Police had confirmed a dozen fake TikTok accounts misused generative AI technology and impersonated Johor’s exco in a fraudulent attempt to perform phishing scams with fake information about Bantuan Kasih Johor’s financial aid.
