The Real Estate and Housing Developer’s Association (REHDA) Johor has announced the appointment of Gerard Soosay as its chairperson for the 2026–2028 term, on its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 21st May 2026.

Gerard has over thirty years of experience in the construction and real estate industries. The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), the impending RTS Link, and the state’s increasing emergence as a strategically connected investment, business, and lifestyle destination within the larger Malaysia-Singapore growth corridor are all contributing factors to Johor’s renewed regional and international attention at the time of his appointment.

In his inaugural remarks as Chairperson, Gerard outlined REHDA Johor’s vision to strengthen collaboration between industry players, government authorities, and key stakeholders in shaping a more progressive, sustainable, and investment-ready Johor property sector.

“I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence placed in me to serve as the 50th Chairperson of REHDA Johor. I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the REHDA members for their continued support,” said Gerard.

“As Johor enters a new phase of transformation driven by greater connectivity, investment inflows, and cross-border integration, REHDA Johor will continue to play an active role in fostering constructive engagement between the private and public sectors while advocating for sustainable, people-centric and future-ready development practices.”

“With the breadth of experience and expertise within the committee, we hope to further strengthen the association’s role in supporting the industry and contributing meaningfully towards Johor’s long-term growth and development,” he continues to add.

Along with Gerard, REHDA Johor unveiled the newly appointed line-up for the upcoming term, which includes Chong Kai Siang (Deputy Chairperson), Michael Fu Yueh Yee (Treasurer), Ir. Hj Syarul Izam bin Hj Sarifudin (Secretary), and Tan Yee Seong (Assistant Secretary).

With the support of five committee members, the core office bearers reflect the association’s ongoing commitment to strengthening industry representation, collaboration, and leadership as Johor navigates a watershed moment in its history.

Gerard succeeds outgoing Chairlady Lindy Tan after previously serving as Deputy Chairperson of REHDA Johor.

Gerard also paid tribute to Lindy Tan for her leadership and contributions to the association and the broader industry.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Lindy for her dedication, leadership, and steadfast commitment throughout her tenure as Chairlady of REHDA Johor. Her contributions have helped strengthen the association and further elevate the voice of Johor’s property development industry,” he said.

Gerard then praised the guidance and leadership of REHDA Johor’s previous chairpersons, including Wong Boon Lang and Dato’ Steve Chong, whom he had the honour of working for during his time in the association.

“As REHDA Johor marks its 50th year, I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Wong Boon Lang, Dato’ Steve Chong, and all past Chairpersons for their guidance, leadership, and contributions in shaping the association over the years. Their stewardship has laid a strong foundation for us to continue moving the industry forward together,” he added.

Gerard is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Property (Southern Region) and Sunway City Iskandar Puteri.

His appointment as Chairperson reflects REHDA Johor’s ongoing dedication to progressive industry leadership, constructive stakeholder engagement, and the advancement of sustainable development practices as Johor enters a new era of regional prominence and cross-border growth.
