The state’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) are monitoring and identifying the cause of poultry’s price change that hiked recently since 10th of June in all businesses premises. 105 inspections were made at 9 chicken farms, 29 main wholesalers to 67 retailers in wet markets, supermarkets and sundries.
An investigation was carried out and Section 21 notice of Price Control and Anti-Profit Act(AKHAP) 2011 was submitted for more information and clarification from the relevant parties. A total of 70 notices were issued involving 9 farmers, 19 wholesalers and 42 retailers in Kluang, Batu Pahat, Muar and Johor Bahru districts. The ministry has issued stern warning to take action under the Price Control and Anti-Profit Act 2011 on any dealers who are found deliberately raising the selling price for the purpose of making unreasonable profits.
Individuals who are found violating the provisions of this Act could be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or both, and if it’s found to be a second offense, a fine of up to RM250,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or both. Companies in the other hand can be fined up to RM500,000 in court and fined up to RM1 million. Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has also provided various mediums for the distribution of complaints to facilitate the public to make complaints regarding price issues.
