Yayasan JCorp delivered a historic boost to rural education and energy resilience with the official handover of The Future Powered Project, a solar power initiative at Sekolah Agama Tunjuk Laut.
As one of Johor’s few fully off-grid schools in Johor, the institution has long depended solely on a diesel genset, facing frequent power disruptions and operational challenges.
The newly installed solar photovoltaic system is equipped with an Internet of Things monitoring system, enabling real-time tracking of energy performance and system health.
In addition, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, together with Yayasan JCorp and ICP Piles, will provide training to teachers and the local community on basic solar maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability of the system.
The initiative is made possible through the collaboration of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, which led the design, installation, and training components; Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor, as the overseeing authority; and Johor Plantations Group Berhad (JPG), which continues to support site facilitation for the school.
Yayasan JCorp also expressed its deep appreciation to Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor for enhancing the occasion through contributions of back-to-school essentials, two printers and two smart TVs to support teaching and learning.
Appreciation was also extended to QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd for providing KFC and Pizza Hut meals, which added warmth and joy to the students and the wider school community on this meaningful day.
This programme reflects Yayasan JCorp’s strong commitment under its Environment pillar, which in 2025 included robust initiatives such as marine conservation through coral rehabilitation and seagrass ecotourism experiences, as well as tree planting programmes involving tree adoption and mangrove restoration.
In addition to environmental efforts, rural development has also been a growing priority for Yayasan JCorp.
In October this year, three rural schools were selected for the Digital Literacy Programme, with a contribution of sixty laptops to strengthen digital access for underserved communities.
Zaidatul Zurita Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan JCorp, highlighted the impact of the solar project on the school’s future.
“This solar solution offers stability and dignity to a school that has been operating under challenging conditions for years. With reliable clean energy and an IoT-enabled system, the entire community will benefit from safer, uninterrupted learning.”
She also emphasised the organisation’s broader environmental agenda.
“Our work in marine conservation, mangrove restoration, and tree planting reflects our belief that environmental care must be holistic. This initiative stands alongside these programmes as part of our mission to protect ecosystems while uplifting communities.”
Zaidatul further expressed appreciation for the collaboration that made the project possible.
“When partners come together with a shared purpose, we create impact that transforms lives. We are grateful to all agencies and organisations who joined hands to support this school, especially Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor, whose contribution brought both resources and happiness to the students today”.
Officiated by Tuan Haji Miswan Bin Yunus, District Officer of Kota Tinggi, the ceremony marked the official handover of the solar system to Sekolah Agama Tunjuk Laut.
With clean energy, digital tools, and stronger environmental initiatives in place, Yayasan JCorp continues to champion programmes that empower communities across Johor.
