Bringing happiness to those who are suffering

Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort has kicked off contributing 300 packs of cooked food from 16th May and will continue daily until the 5th phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO) ceases on 6th June 2020, to individuals and families who suffered loss of income and jobs due to the Order.

In collaboration with Yayasan Kebajikan Suria Johor Bahru, the food will be distributed through partner NGOs and NGIs under the Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) umbrella to reach out to labourers, petty traders, taxi/Grab drivers, school bus drivers, contract workers, and other day-job worker who were displaced, some overnight, due to closure of businesses since 18th March 2020 when the MCO first began.

“When the MCO began, Ponderosa and other subsidiaries under the Kuok Group had contributed provisions and packed food to charitable organisations.  This latter part, on learning about the rising number of people in our community who are going hungry, and having exhausted whatever reserves due to the extended MCO, we are collaborating with groups of social workers and organisations under the IMSHA network,” said Tan Kai Yang, General Manager of Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort.

Currently the food is being distributed to surrounding areas such as Taman Molek, Taman Desa Harmoni, Permas Jaya, Johor Jaya, Plentong and Masai.

“It is happiness for 7500 hungry people. With the cooked food poor families can now stretch the food rations that were given in earlier phases of the MCO and we can therefore move on to give rations to others we have not reached out to,” said James Ho, the founder of Kebajikan Suria Johor Bahru.

IMSHA or Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards is an initiative to spot, recognise and deserving individuals and organisations who have been aiding the Johorean community silently, since 2014.  It has formed a Winners Network under the Social Hero Foundation and to-date 25 of these NGOs and NGIs have been working non-stop since the start of MCO, to support the needy community.
