Welcome Ceremony for Southern University College and Aichi University Cooperative 2026 Student Exchange Programme

Southern University College held a welcome ceremony for its 2026 Student Exchange Programme in collaboration with Aichi University, Japan. Now in its 11th year, the programme marks a new stage of steady progress and deepening cooperation in education and academic exchange between the two institutions.

Prof. ChM. Dr Leong Loong Kong, Acting President of Southern University College expressed his delight in welcoming students from Aichi University, and extended his sincere appreciation for the close partnership built over the years. He noted that the programme offers students a valuable opportunity to learn Chinese in an authentic linguistic environment, helping them enhance their language proficiency while further strengthening institutional ties and promoting cultural exchange between Malaysia and Japan. He also encouraged students to actively immerse themselves in Malaysia’s multicultural society, develop cross-cultural understanding, and make the most of a fulfilling and memorable learning experience.

Associate Prof. Abe Hirotada from Faculty of Modern Chinese Studies, Aichi University remarked that participants may encounter challenges related to language adaptation, cultural differences, and daily life. He advised students to remain focused on their studies while also taking care of their physical and mental well-being, supporting one another to ensure the smooth and successful completion of the programme.

Student representative Takasu Usa shared that they would treasure this valuable opportunity to study in Malaysia, strive to improve their Chinese proficiency over the next four months, actively engage in academic courses and cultural activities, and aim for excellent results while gaining a deeper understanding of Malaysian society and its diverse cultures.

The four-month programme will show Aichi University students studying and living at Southern University College. To facilitate their adaptation, Southern University College has arranged bilingual language partners in Chinese and English to provide support. The curriculum covers Chinese and English language courses along with subjects on Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures. In addition, students will participate in cultural activities such as Tai Chi, 24 Festive Drums, Diabolo, and Calligraphy allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation of Malaysia’s rich multicultural heritage through hands-on experience.

The welcome ceremony concluded successfully in a warm and lively atmosphere.
