The Johor government has put in place a variety of mitigation measures to address water supply disruptions caused by the current critical level of raw water resources.
Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Johor Menteri Besar, stated that the Yong Peng Water Treatment Plant’s operations have been strengthened with an additional distribution of four million litres per day.
He clarified that in order to support the Simpang Renggam Water Treatment Plant’s operations; a pontoon system is being installed at the Machap Dam to channel up to 20 million litres of water per day to Sungai Benut.
In order to maintain the needs of the impacted residents, 28 water tankers are presently being mobilised in Pontian and Kluang. Along with the help of 15 more lorries from other states that are specifically for the impacted areas, 14 more water tankers from outside Johor are anticipated to arrive.
In a statement, he said, “To meet the needs of the residents, the state government has also placed 41 static water tanks in nine locations in Kluang and 32 locations in Pontian.”
Operation Cloud Seeding, in partnership with NADMA, METMalaysia, and the Royal Malaysian Air Force, is planned for the 11th, 12th, and 15th of February at the Machap Dam, Layang, and Ulu Sungai Sedili Kecil in an attempt to boost the water supply in the short term by increasing the likelihood of rain.
“I recognise that despite all of these efforts, the challenges still exist. But trust me when I say that every organisation is working tirelessly to ensure that no Johorean is left without help.
“In this situation, I request that the people work together to conserve water and pass on information if there are areas that need immediate attention.
