The Johor state government will add 1,000 more A2 Jersey Friesian dairy cows from Victoria Harbour, Australia, to boost food security efforts.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the implementation of the initiative would increase local milk production capacity through the construction of the Jemaluang Dairy Valley (JDV) dairy factory.

Onn Hafiz also stated that the initiative would increase local milk production capacity by constructing the Jemaluang Dairy Valley (JDV) dairy factory.

“Local cows can produce about 12 litres a day, but the cows we import can produce more than 27 to 30 litres a day.”

“Therefore, Johor (is expected) to become the country’s largest milk producer when it is fully operational in 2027,” he said when speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the JDV Dairy Factory in Mersing, Johor.

Datuk Zahari Sarip, the chairman of the state Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, and Rural Development Committee, and JDV CEO Qasem Alhasan were also in attendance.

Qasem reportedly said that the area would be open to school students by mid-2027 under an agro-tourism concept.

He said various interesting activities had been planned, including an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), camping and a mini zoo.

“Meanwhile, the second phase will be opened to the public in 2028,” he said.

According to Qasem, his party intends to produce its own products, including fresh milk, date-flavoured milk, strawberry, and chocolate, followed by yoghurt and ice cream, which will be processed at the factory.

He further said that JDV can house up to 4,000 cows and has the potential to grow further thanks to a strategic partnership with the state government.

With an estimated RM80 million investments, the joint project between the Johor State Government, the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC), and JDV Sdn Bhd aims to produce three million litres of milk in the first year, four to five million in the next year, and twelve million litres annually in the next five years.

The development of JDV’s extensive dairy industry in Pasir Gudang Port began on 1st November of last year when 1,000 dairy cows of the same breed arrived from Victoria Port, Australia.
