Marking the historical arrival of the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine in Johor

The first batch of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer BioNTech for Johor state has arrived at 2 pm, 21st February 2020, Sunday, brought directly from Changi International Airport, Singapore to Johor Causeway.

DHL delivery company truck carrying the vaccine was welcomed by Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni Mohammad, Malaysia Minister of Health, Dato ’ Dr. Adham Baba, and Johor Deputy of State Secretary, Dato ’Haji Mohd. Noh Ibrahim.

The vaccine was sent to storage in Senai with strict security controls and will be distributed to several hospitals in the state starting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Khairy Jamaluddin, the coordinating minister for the COVID-19 National Immunisation Programme, who is also MOSTI’s minister, said that a safety system will be created to compensate vaccine recipients with serious side effects.

“Any COVID-19 vaccine recipient who suffers adverse effects from the vaccination will receive ex-gratia payments under this scheme,” he said, adding that the matter was decided last week by the Cabinet at a special meeting.
