Sunway Group is back with its signature #SunwayforGood Festive Cheer series to spread joy to some 140 children from four orphanages down south with its Deepavali Cheer initiative. In attendance were Gerard Soosay, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway City Iskandar Puteri and Dato’ Hj. Mohd Rashidi bin Hj Mohd Noor, Deputy Chairman of MRC National Committee for Community Services alongside several other township stakeholders came to show support.

Together, groups of Sunway staff took these children through a wide range of activities at Sunway Big Box Retail Park, including shopping at Sports Direct, a GSC movie screening and a round of children’s games, before ending with an appetising lunch at the Sunway City Iskandar Puteri Events Gallery.

This year, apart from the giveaways by Sports Direct and Golden Screen Cinemas, BookXcess too came on board to sponsor reading materials for children.

Gerard Soosay said, “As we resume normalcy in this endemic stage, Deepavali and other festive celebrations are finally back in full swing, reflecting the spirit of merriment, familiarity and reunions. For underprivileged communities, these times can often be lonely as daily struggles persist. This is not to say that generosity should only be shown in these seasons, however, perhaps our contributions can in a small way bring about joy despite moments of strife. That’s why our Group has partnered with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and the Yayasan Zarith Sofiah, to shed light and brighten the faces of our anak-anak Johor.”

“We also want to extend our appreciation to our sponsors who believe in our Cheer initiatives, and have gone the extra mile to put a smile on the face of these children.”

The children were treated with goodie bags which included multivitamins from Sunway Multicare Pharmacy, Deepavali cookies, GSC vouchers, and books from BookXcess.

Coming up to Sunway’s 50th anniversary in 2024, the Group aims to surpass the hundreds of thousands of lives they’ve positively touched, across Malaysia, into the millions through its core values and purpose-driven commitment.

“Deepavali Cheer is a shining example of our Group’s iconic #SunwayforGood initiative. I’m proud to say that each part and parcel of our organisation pledges to promote sustainability and social responsibility efforts through three key pillars: education, healthcare, and, as seen today, community enrichment” Gerard added.

Sunway’s efforts will continue beyond this event. This year, Sunway is supporting these four children’s homes with groceries until December through the #SunwayforGood Deepavali Cheer initiative. Reaffirming Sunway’s full dedication to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’ core principle – “Leave no one behind.”

Sunway’s Corporate Responsibility is encapsulated under its #SunwayforGood umbrella that pledges to promote sustainability and social responsibility efforts through three areas namely education, healthcare, and community enrichment, aligned with the Group’s commitment to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Since its inception, #SunwayforGood has touched the lives of over half a million beneficiaries and aims to positively impact millions more across the country in the lead-up to Sunway’s 50-year milestone in 2024, underscored by its core values and purpose-driven commitment.
