Sun Bus Tech Kickstart Its Headquarters and Manufacturing Plant in Johor

Sun Bus Tech Sdn Bhd (Sun Bus Tech), a bus and bus body manufacturing company owned by Sun Wah Group, officially commenced its development on its first bus body manufacturing plant with a groundbreaking ceremony held at Senai Airport City, Johor.

Focusing on bus body manufacturing, Sun Bus Tech is the new name that was carried out by the industry pioneer, Phang Sun Wah, Founder & Chairman of Sun Bus Tech, who has more than 50 years of solid experience started in the 70s. “It is our goal to contribute to a better living environment by enabling high-quality, sustainable, emission-free and affordable public transport. With its technological know-how, the company has accurate structural design and competency design bus bodies that can be assembled onto various types of chassis according to customers’ specifications,” said Phang Sun Wah.

The transportation business of today demands a longer lifetime and reliable service without interruptions. Sun Bus Techevolved based on the years of bus and bus bodybuilding experiences gathered and the development of manufacturing formula with top-notch technology from Europe, redefining the business landscape of the automotive industry in the market.

With the latest joint venture with our Swiss partner, a leading aluminium bus body solution provider and supplier (Carrosserie Hess AG), we are confident that our product, adopting top technology from Europe, is long-lasting,energy-efficient, recyclable, corrosion-resistant and easy to maintain,” said Shyan Phang, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Bus Tech.

In welcoming Sun Bus TechSdn. Bhd. to be part of Malaysia’s development in the automotive industry, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman said, “MIDA is privileged to have Sun Bus Tech Sdn. Bhd. to set up its manufacturing plant here. The investment by Sun Bus Tech is the kind of investment Malaysia aims to attract and anchor. With this manufacturing plant in place, it will create job opportunities for more than 200 jobs ranging from manufacturing front liners to managerial positions as it is set to commence in Quarter 3 2023.”

“In addition, Malaysia is a strategic and ideal sustainable investment destination for investors of EV-related industries to enter the Southeast Asia market. Besides the Malaysian Government’s EV policies, the continuation of new model launches of electric vehicles will contribute to the EV market growth in the country, in line with the government’s strategic policies such as the National Investment Aspiration (NIA). We also believe Sun Bus Tech will be able to realise our country’s aspiration for a cleaner and sustainable environment, which is in line with the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principle,” added Datuk Arham.

Officiated by Lee Ting Han-Johor State Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman, the manufacturing of Sun Bus Tech will involve a total of up to 4 production lines which are estimated to produce more than 300 units of commercial vehicles per year. In line with Phang’s Vision of building sustainable and environmentally-friendly products, Sun Bus Tech will be setting up automation features in both its production and warehouse. The office and factory buildings will be installing solar panels, and solar reflective glass to reduce energy consumption and adopt rainwater recycling efforts to protect the environment.

“Public transport is very important for a mature city like Johor as it reduces congestion. It is also essential in improving fuel efficiency and air pollution. I am glad to see quality bus manufacturing providers like Sun Bus Tech taking further steps in shaping a better public transport environment, by injecting the latest technology on par with the EU standards and offering high-quality total solutions in the industry. I am also personally happy to see how sun Bus Tech–though a new Johorean brand but with long-standing industry experience — has now set up in SenaiAirportCity,ready to reset the game plan in the automotive market in Malaysia, as well as the APAC region. The state government will continue to extend a dedicated level of assistance in supporting the growth of SunBus Tech in the region,” said Lee.

In addition to bus and bus body manufacturing, SunBusTech also already set up a joint venture with Poland seat manufacturer (STERSP. Z.O.O.) which focuses on commercial vehicle seat supplies in Asia.

“Our vision is simple. We want to deliver economical, reliable, and progressive solutions to the demand for sustainable public transport. We play our part to contribute to a better living environment,” added Phang.

The Sun Bus Tech Manufacturing plant will create more than 200 jobs ranging from manufacturing frontline to managerial positions, and its completion is set in Q32023.
