After calling for the Federal Government to impose a total lockdown nationwide, Johor’s ruler, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar suggested a strategic and systematic, full lockdown for the government to impose while also keeping the economic activities ongoing through his official Facebook page on 28th May 2021.
“I suggest a full lockdown on a targeted basis, by state or region.”
“For example, the southern zones of Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan be in full lockdown ‘for two weeks’, followed by other zones such as the east coast (Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan). States that are not under lockdown can resume economic activities under the Movement Control Order (MCO) measures of their respective areas.”
His Majesty told the Royal Press Office (RPO) that by doing so, this would help the nation manage the number of positive cases while the country’s economic activities could continue.
He closed his statement with remarks of worries for the country during the COVID-19 plight and hopes that it will be considered by both state and federal government.
As of 28th May 2021, National Security Council Malaysia (MKN) reported that Malaysia has recorded 8,290 new positive of COVID-19 cases, with 762 cases in Johor. The accumulated positive COVID-19 cases nationwide are currently at 549,514. This is the first time for the country to pass the 8,000 mark.
