As an immediate measure to address the shortage of manpower, Southern Volunteers (SV) have begun to be deployed at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA), Johor Bahru, said SV through their official Facebook page.
They are assigned to carry out non-clinical roles such as managing registration and assisting with patient movement, to facilitate the hospital’s daily operations.
“Thank you to HRH Tunku Mahkota Ismail, Regent of Johor for approving the implementation of the Southern Volunteers Healthcare initiative, a strategic volunteer effort mobilised to assist the operations of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital,” state Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said.
“I, along with the Johor State Health and Environment EXCO, Ling Tian Soon, reviewed the First Phase of SV Healthcare which began on 24th July 2025, where SV volunteers are mobilised according to three (3) duty hours, namely 7 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to 9 pm and 9 pm to 7 am,” he added.
“Congratulations and thanks to the Menteri Besar of Johor, Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi for his concern in always going to the field to review the situation at the state’s main health facilities, as well as wanting to see the joint efforts of SV in helping to ease the burden of health workers at HAS,” he concluded with gratitude.
HSA was chosen as a pilot location to assess the actual needs and scope of Southern Volunteers’ tasks before expanding the deployment to other hospitals in the state in stages.
