MRT Corp. provided an update on the RTS Link via its Facebook page, noting that the Marine Viaduct, which connects Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North, Singapore on the RTS Link, has made significant progress in construction.
According to MRT Corp., the Marine Viaduct, a terrestrial bridge that spans the Straits of Tebrau and is 750 metres long from the shoreline of Stulang Laut in Johor. Furthermore, Pier 47, is only a few metres away from the Malaysia-Singapore border, and it will be the penultimate pier for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS Link) Project on the Malaysian side and will be linked by a drop-in span to Pier 48 on the Singaporean side.
“With an estimated passenger capacity of 10,000 people per hour per direction, the cross-border rail link will alleviate the current Causeway congestion, with the RTS Link expected to take on 30% of the existing load,” said MRT Corp.
Earlier in July, Johor’s Works, Transportation, and Infrastructure Committee Chairman, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that the RTS Link project was on track, with 41% completed as of June this year, and added that the rail network is expected to be fully completed by 2026.
He said this after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the Pedestrian Overhead Bridge to connect KOMTAR JBCC to the current planned bridge of the RTS Link.
