Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel prides itself on encouraging travellers to “Discover This Way”, and that conviction strengthens with the new appointment of Kanit Sangmookda as General Manager. With over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Kanit’s most recent role was General Manager at the stylish Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu.
Originally from Thailand, Kanit holds a master’s degree in International Business Management majoring in Management and Economics from Wollongong University in Australia will oversee all aspects of operational management with more than 200 associates as well as implement strategic initiatives to enhance productivity and guest satisfaction for the hotel, ensuring guests with memorable and unexpected memories at Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel.
Kanit is a seasoned Revenue disciplinarian holding roles as Director of Revenue Management at Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa and The Westin Kuala Lumpur, as well as Regional Director of Revenue Management for Starwood Hotels & Resorts South East Asia. In October 2013, Kanit was promoted as General Manager of Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan and transferred to Le Méridien Jakarta as General Manager in April 2016 where he spearheaded the renovation of the hotel rooms and lobby lounge as well as overseeing the migration to Marriott International after the acquisition of Starwood.

Kanit is also passionate about serving the tourism and hospitality industry in almost every market he presented as he believes in giving back to the community and paying it forward to the next generation. Back in Thailand, Kanit spent his weekend being a part-time lecturer at the Hotel Management Faculty of Assumption University. During his time in Sandakan, Kanit was part of the pioneer Executive Committee team of Sandakan Tourism Association (STAN) which was established in 2015. While at the same time, Kanit also represented Sandakan hotels on the Executive Committee of Malaysia Hotels Association (MAH) — Sabah/Labuan chapter as well.
Possessing a strong leadership background in managing a large portfolio of multiple hotels at a regional level, Kanit is an enthusiastic learner who can easily adapt to newly developed technological tools and blend in with newly introduced operational systems or resources.
In his spare time, Kanit enjoys running outdoors, cooking or exploring wine and dining scenes with his family, diving and spinning his music as a DJ are his hobbies.
