Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah attended the Rays of Light charity dinner organised by Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation that sees over RM1million or specifically RM1,002,000 in funds that were raised from 38 sponsors made up of government agencies, private companies and individuals.
The collected sum of money will help fund the medical cost of the cancer patients, accommodating the needs of the patients such as disposable diapers and special needs milk, and providing the equipment needed by the patient such as a wheelchair, oxygen tank and others.
The main sponsors of the Rays of Light Charity Dinner are Ariani Textiles & Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd, Pejabat Menteri Besar Johor, Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd, Jcorp and Group of Companies, Knusford Berhad, Berjaya Corporation Berhad and YPJ Holdings Sdn Bhd who have donated Platinum packages in funding the cancer patients’ treatment.
Her Majesty who is also the Chairman of the foundation said in TLJCF’s statement that she also hopes that in future, there are more individuals, institutes and corporate companies would help fund and support the foundation so as to extend the legacy of her late son, Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
The Queen of Johor expressed confidence that every initiative taken to help cancer fighters will be increased as time passes by and also hope that every agency could give broad support to TLJCF.
100 cancer patients and their guardians were invited to the charity dinner and two of them presented a poem of lyrics by Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim. Syamel, Indah Ruhaila and Yayasan Warisan Johor singers were also present to entertain all guests.
The Board Director of TLJCF, Dato’ Dr Mohd Khairi Yakub, Executive Director of TLJCF, Col (B) Dato’ Mohamed Perang Haji Musa, Chief Executive Director of TLJCF, Mohd Ikmal Izam Zaini and other guests of honour were also present at the event.
The Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF) was the idea of Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim himself after realising that the procedures and astronomical medical expenses are putting a strain on cancer patients and their families where he shared his concerns and plans with his father, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of Johor who concurred with the idea.
The Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation was established under the supervision of the Johor State Government on 26th June 2015.
Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim passed after battling cancer on 5th December 2015.
