Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) came down to town and lent their expertise at Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri’s breast cancer awareness event
In an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer, Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri (CAHIP) decorated their hospital pink for a week in October as a part of their Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2019 jointly organised with Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) that specially came down from Kuala Lumpur.
As a part of CAHIP’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort, the initiative provided awareness and education to the community on the risk factors and symptoms of breast cancer and the importance of seeking medical evaluation. BCWA’s matron Salimah and matron Nazirah provided their expertise in breast cancer self-examination and counselling.
The campaign kicked off with a breast cancer talk by Dr. Ding Eng Li, General Manager of Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri at JEIWA Power House in Paradigm Mall to 200 participants in collaboration with Johor Empowerment of Intellectual Women Association (JEIWA).
Among the activities during the one-week campaign were charity sales of CAHIP’s exclusive Breast Cancer Awareness Month t-shirt and merchandise, roadshows, basic health screening, carnival games, healthy cooking demonstration, colouring contest, beauty workshop, special magic show and more. All proceeds collected were donated to BCWA.
Currently, Columbia Asia Hospital Iskandar Puteri is undergoing construction of a new medical ward which will accommodate Coronary Care Unit (CCU) with additional 19 beds and expansion of a new Accident & Emergency area with larger waiting area and more emergency bays, expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2020.
