Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group in collaboration with Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ) distributed food and financial aid to less fortunate families within Gelang Patah and Johor Bahru community through its’ annual PTP-LPJ Tijarah Ramadan Programme

Through its annual PTP-LPJ Tijarah Ramadan Program, Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, in collaboration with Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ), distributed food and financial aid to the less fortunate families in Gelang Patah and Johor Bahru.

Officiated by Ir. Ts. Mohamad Fazli Bin Mohamad Salleh, Johor State Exco of Public Works, Transportation & Infrastructure, a total of 250 less fortunate families comprised of single parents and low-income families received aid in the form of cash vouchers, raya cookies, and other essential goods such as rice, sugar, flour, and spices, among others.

Rosnan bin Fathlal, Chairman of LPJ states that the Tijarah Ramadan Programme has been co-organised by both LPJ and PTP since 2016, benefiting more than 1500 families and individual from underprivileged background surrounding PTP area.

“As an authority, this programme is an excellent medium for LPJ and PTP as the port operator to give back to the community, especially those in the Gelang Patah area where PTP operates”.

“I hope that this humble assistance given will also spark joy to the local community, especially the needy, in the run-up to Aidilfitri, he added.

PTP Chief Executive Officer, Marco Neelsen said that the Tijarah Ramadan programme also forms part of the company’s community well-being and development focus area in line wwith thePTP Sustainability Agenda and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

PTP LPJ Tijarah Ramadan 2023 was officiated by Ir. Ts. Mohamad Fazli Bin Mohamad Salleh, Johor State Exco of Public Works, Transportation & Infrastructure. Also in attendance were Datuk Pandak Ahmad, ADUN Kota Iskandar, Rosnan bin Fathlal, Chairman of Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor, Monaliza Binti Suhaimi, General Manager of Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor and Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP

“The programme not only helps the development of sustainable communities but also serves as an avenue for PTP staff to continuously give back to the community via CSR volunteerism activities.”

“This year, a special programme involving 40 children with special needs from Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) Nusajaya and Tanjung Puteri as well as from Pusat Jagaan Kasih Setanggi Orphanage Home was also organised by PTP volunteers, who took time to organise a port terminal tour and other fun and interesting activities during a one-day programme with the children prior to the iftar session,” he added.

Juamah Binti Abdullah, a recipient of aid from Kampung Tiram Duku, expressed gratitude for donations from PTP and LPJ.

According to Juamah, food aid can be of great assistance to the underprivileged, especially during Ramadan.

“Having grown up in this village, I hope that programmes like this can be continued and expanded to benefit more people who need it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rohana Mustaffa, a teacher from PDK Tanjung Puteri lauds both LPJ and PTP for continuously supporting the centre’s activities and development throughout the years.

“This Ramadan, apart from bringing the children to experience how the port works, PTP also collaborates with us to promote our products made by the children of the centre to the mass market as part of the company’s ESG agenda”.

Rohana expressed hope that more corporate entities and government agencies, like PTP and LPJ, will take a proactive role in assisting PDK and community centres, given the constraints and various assistance required by the centres, respectively.
