In Pasir Gudang, Johor, MMHE West, a Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd (MHB) operation yard, has gone solar.
MHB reported that the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels was completed by M+ by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), the group’s solar solution brand and the agreement will last until 2042, a total of 21 years.
The 8.3 megawatt peak (MWp) solar rooftop at MMHE West is the largest rooftop solar installation in a single complex in Malaysia, according to MHB.
It said that the 18,720 solar PV panels would be adequate to power eight buildings at MMHE West, with a total area of 440,496 square feet. These panels provide estimated 10,000-megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy each year.
Electricity costs will be reduced by RM30 million over the next 21 years, according to MHB.
MHB’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Pandai Othman, said the company would now run its operations using clean and renewable energy, reducing its carbon footprint.

In addition to the solar PV panels, Pandai noted that the company had other environmental sustainability policies in place.
Energy efficiency, trash management, and water conservation were all taken into account.
“On the business side, we acknowledge the dynamics of the energy industry and have expanded our strategies in exploring opportunities in the renewable energy sector which include the construction of offshore wind farm structures.
“To date, we have established partnerships with various international engineering solutions providers for that purpose,” he said.
