KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital organised an awareness event, ‘From FRONTLINER to FRONTLINER’ in lieu with Malaysia’s 63rd Independence Day celebration and in the spirit of camaraderie with fellow frontliners in different services to keep the nation going throughout the lockdown since March 2020. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the hospital invited 40 food delivery riders from Grab and foodpanda to learn basic awareness on first aid and CPR to help them prepare for any incidents that they may encounter while performing their duties.
Chief Executive Officer of KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital, Hazarul Azly Hamzah said in his speech that the effort is a show of gratitude from one frontliner to another, citing that the food delivery service has helped ease the process of getting food to others when the whole nation was staying put at home to contain the spread of COVID-19. Referring to the nature of the riders’ work that need to brave the risks and odds, the basic skills would come in handy to respond to any situation of emergency that would help themselves and others.
Around 13 participants, all serving under Grab Food are either hearing or speech impaired and were seen communicating with the help of a sign language interpreter from Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Darul Ta’zim (YPKDT), Mohd Fadhrul Zharef Mohd Fuzi. According to him, the effort would help add skills to these groups of people to be able to be productive members of the society.
One of the hearing impaired riders, Mohd Izwan Syah Bohari, 31, has been working as a rider for over a year and enjoys his work delivering necessities.
The event lasted for 2 hours with the hospital’s personnel bidding farewell with well-wishes to the riders going off to attend their duty for the afternoon, armed with a packaged lunch box, waterproof rain jacket and KPJ’s simple first aid kit each.
