The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) predicts that over 300,000 voters will travel home to vote, causing increased traffic on highways, particularly in Johor, ahead of Saturday’s 16th Johor state election.

LLM chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad said in a statement that travellers heading to or through Johor should plan their routes to avoid traffic on the state’s main access roads.

He stated that lane closures on highways would be postponed on election day to ensure safe and smooth travel, except for emergency work.

“LLM also encouraged motorists to use the TuJu app to plan their trips, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and keep enough money in their Touch ‘n Go accounts, e-wallets, and debit cards.

“Motorists should also follow speed limits and drive carefully through the third-lane construction zone on the northbound North-South Motorway between Simpang Renggam and Senai,” he added.

Hasni also urged highway users to follow instructions during smart lane activation and to take breaks at designated rest and service areas (R&R) and lay-bys.

The public can stay up to date on traffic and highway incidents by visiting LLM’s official Facebook page and TikTok account @llmtrafik, or calling the LLM Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752.

Live highway traffic updates from CCTV cameras are also available on LLM’s official website, www.llm.gov.my, and the LLM Info Trafik WhatsApp channel.

The Election Commission has set 11th July as the polling date for Johor state elections.
