275,785 “New Generation” MyKads were issued between 17th September and 20th October 2026. Johor had the greatest number of 31,392, followed by the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (29,601) and Selangor (26,736).
According to press sources, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail claimed the New Generation MyKad has 53 security measures, up from 23 in the previous edition, such as a QR code, ultraviolet characteristics, and a hologram. These changes are meant to improve the security of the ID card, which has been in use for the past 12 years.
He gave assurances that the National Registration Department (NRD) is capable of handling the demand for switching to the New Generation MyKad.
The department currently receives an average of 200,000 applications per month for various purposes, including new identification card applications, replacements for damaged cards, and MyKad replacements for individuals reaching the age of 18.
