Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) winner, Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club (JBHJC) held their 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) cum Lunar New Year Lunch Celebration on the 18th of February 2023 at Marina Seafood Restaurant, Straits View Hotel.
The event oversaw the objectives of their AGM, and all members, partners and NGOs were invited to a Chinese New Year lunch chaired by the Organising Chair, Pauline Foo with the help of two emcees, Lina Lim in Mandarin and Margaret in English.
Approximately 90 attendees were mostly dressed in red in honour of the theme Heng! Ong! Huat! Special guests included Vincent D’Silva from the NST, Dr Sharon Puah Chui Har, Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine Department, Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor, Dr Albert Lim, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Regency Specialist Hospital, Johor Bahru, John Krishnan from the Tamil News, and Walter Lim, Secretary, Persatuan Kebajikan Kenangan Budi Johor Bahru.
President Koh Mui Cheng chaired the AGM, which was completed effectively and efficiently in 10 minutes. This year is a non-election year because the office bearers were elected for a two-year term last year.
The CNY celebrations began immediately after the AGM, with all present performing to a lovely, versatile line dancing to three lively songs, led by their Clown Director and Line Dance Teacher Maggie Chong.
In a “Table Game” of Dressing Up the Rabbit, the winning table was represented by member Mohd Ali Taib, a Senior Principal Assistant Director, Children Division, Social Welfare Department.
Outstanding members who had reactivated the residential Laughter Groups and those who had worked quietly and diligently for the Club’s Centre received special recognition too.
The Best Dressed event was the highlight, with the winners being Khedlly Koh, 1st Runner Up Hiroko Yokoi from Japan, and 2nd Runner-Up Eve Khoo.
The Johor Bahru Happy & Joyous Club is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) whose primary activities include Laughter Yoga, Clowning, Drum Circles, and other activities that bring joy and happiness to the community.
