The national-level framework will reinforce Iskandar Malaysia’s established smart city framework

Iskandar Malaysia is elated over the launch of Malaysia Smart City Framework by Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Cities 4.0 Conference. The creation of this national-level framework is another big step towards realising the smart nation agenda.

“7 years ago, Iskandar Malaysia took the first, bold step towards becoming a smart city and launched its own smart city framework called ‘Smart City Iskandar Malaysia’ (SCIM). Now, we are ecstatic to see the national-level Malaysia Smart City Framework becoming a reality and accelerating the nation’s aim to be a smart nation while helping to reinforce our established framework, “said Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA).

Iskandar Malaysia is also a member of the Malaysia Smart City Alliance (MSCA) and the ASEAN Smart City Network. Iskandar Malaysia’s smart city effort is also globally recognised as the region partners with the likes of the United Nations, UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Hewlett Packard and Society D’Amanagement amongst others.

Iskandar   Malaysia’   focuses   on   6   dimensions   being   Smart    Economy,   Smart Environment, Smart Mobility, Smart Governance, Smart Living and Smart Mobility.

The 6 dimensions cover the economic, social and environmental spectrum from end- to-end, in line with the region’s development plan and vision to become a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing.

Since the Smart City Iskandar Malaysia framework was endorsed, several projects have been  completed such as the Iskandar Malaysia Non-Motorised Transport, Iskandar Malaysia   Healthcare  Integrated   Hub,  State-driven   wireless   initiative  in  Iskandar Malaysia, Sungai Segget  River Revitalising (with SCADA technology), Integrated Operations  Centre  (IoC) for Smart  Services,  SCIM Guidelines  for Recognition Programme, Media and Game Innovation Centre of Excellence and EV Car & Charging Stations.

Moving forward, the region’s smart city agenda will be kept busy with projects such as Iskandar Malaysia   Urban Observatory   (IMUO), Smart City Action Plan for Local Authorities in Iskandar Malaysia, Mobility Management System, Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit and Global District Energy amongst others.
