According to Ling Tian Soon, chairman of the State Health and Environment Committee, Johor’s Hospital Pasir Gudang (HPG), Johor Bahru, will begin to open to the public in stages beginning in July.
The general surgery and emergency and trauma departments will start operations next month, according to Ling.
By the following year, the 304-bed hospital which will have 14 specialty clinics—should be completely functioning. The hospital is planned along a series of courtyards and gardens. This allows natural lighting and ventilation.
“We want to ensure all clinics are ready, in terms of equipment and staff, before welcoming patients in stages,” he said.
Ling stated that more than 1,800 vacancies authorised by the Health Ministry are now being filled, and roles including hospital director and deputy director have been appointed.
The state has asked the ministry to either station doctors and nurses at HPG or transfer them from other medical facilities.
The RM380 million HPG’s construction got underway in 2020, however the COVID-19 pandemic and other limitations caused major delays.
Meanwhile, the physical structure of the facility was completed earlier this year.
