Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast has been recognised as Malaysia’s first KultureCity Sensory Inclusive resort, improving accessibility for guests with sensory sensitivities and supporting more inclusive and autism-friendly travel experiences for families visiting from Malaysia and neighbouring Singapore.

Developed in collaboration with internationally recognised non-profit organisation KultureCity, the certification introduced specialised support tools and environmental adjustments designed to improve comfort for guests who may experience sensory sensitivities. According to KultureCity, sensory accessibility initiatives support the estimated one in six individuals worldwide who experience sensory sensitivities.

The recognition reflects growing efforts within the hospitality sector to make travel more accessible for families, neurodivergent travellers and guests with invisible disabilities.
To mark the recognition, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast hosted a Community Dialogue on Advancing Inclusive Hospitality on 2nd April 2026 in conjunction with World Autism Acceptance Month.

The session brought together educators, therapists, advocates and community partners to share practical perspectives on improving accessibility across travel environments and strengthening collaboration between hospitality operators and local communities.

The dialogue featured contributions from, Yana Ali, Sustainability & ESG Manager, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, Amira binti Aziz, Therapist and Manager, The Playhouse Therapy
and Sangeetha Selvanathan, Trainer and Founder, Spectrum Achievers.

Participants also joined a virtual session with Dr Julian Maha, co-founder of KultureCity, who shared global perspectives on advancing sensory-inclusive hospitality from the United States.

As part of the certification, accessibility enhancements introduced across the resort include KultureCity Sensory Bags equipped with noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools and visual cue cards, together with designated quiet zones in selected areas of the property. These initiatives support a more comfortable and welcoming stay for guests with sensory needs, positioning Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast among Malaysia’s early adopters of sensory-inclusive hospitality.
