After months of temporary closure, Petrosains, The Discovery Centre is now open to the public. The reopening of business operations is in line with the announcement made by the Government to allow the operations of theme parks and family entertainment centres in areas under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) for all fully vaccinated operators and visitors.
Petrosains is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its visitors and staff. Petrosains has conducted stringent sanitising and disinfecting and ensured all staff undergo COVID-19 testing prior to the opening. All safety and precautionary measures are also stepped up in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Government authorities.
Petrosains is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm with the last admission at 4.00 pm. While on weekends, public holidays and school holidays, it will be open from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm with the last admission at 5.00 pm. To provide a safe visit experience, Petrosains will limit visiting slots by capping it at 50% capacity and implement strict physical distancing measures.
Only fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to enter Petrosains. Those with vaccines requiring two doses such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac must have completed 14-days after their second dose vaccination, while those with one dose vaccines such as Johnson & Johnson or CanSino must have completed 28 days after their vaccination. Visitors are also required to present their vaccine digital certificates, register using the MySejahtera app and undergo temperature screening before entering the premises. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by fully vaccinated parents or adults.
Visitors of all ages must also wear a face mask at all times and practice good personal hygiene. Additionally, exhibits and visit areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly. However, certain hands-on and interactive exhibits will be temporarily closed due to hygiene purposes. The number of visitors allowed in learning rooms, Maker Studio, Mini Show areas as well as during Science Shows will also be limited in order to maintain physical distancing.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Petrosains has stepped up its digital presence by providing various online offerings to help keep children and adults alike occupied, informed and mentally stimulated. Petrosains conducted an engaging online workshop series titled the ‘The Discovery Workshop’, for students, families, young adults as well as teachers to learn and immerse in fun and creative STEM activities at home. The workshops are held from September to October 2021 with various interesting topics such as LED Lantern, Scribbling Machine and Mini drone. Petrosains also introduced ‘The Petrosains Gallery Walk’, a brief virtual guide of the centre for people from all over the world to experience the wonders and excitement of Petrosains until borders are open once again.
According to Ezarisma Azni Mohamad, Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains, “After more than four months of temporary closure since the 7th of May 2021, Petrosains is excited to welcome back visitors to our discovery centre and continue to entertain and educate the public in the informal learning of STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics). The health and safety of our visitors and staff will always be of utmost priority. With various precautionary measures in place, Petrosains hopes visitors will be reassured to have a safe and enjoyable visit to its science discovery centre.”
To welcome back visitors to the centre, Petrosains is also offering a gift voucher for every purchase of adult admission ticket, limited to 2 pieces per family. The promotion is valid from 10th to 24th October 2021 and is limited to 30 redemptions per day for gift shop purchases of a minimum of RM30 in a single receipt.
