After months of temporary closure, Petrosains PlaySmart at the Johor Public Library Corporation in Johor Bahru reopened its doors to the public beginning Sunday, 10th October 2021. The reopening of business operations is in line with the reopening of the Johor Public Library Corporation following the Government’s directive to allow the operations of tourism, art, culture and heritage sectors in areas under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) for all fully vaccinated operators and visitors.
Petrosains PlaySmart in Johor Bahru is open from Sunday to Wednesday from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. While on Thursdays, it will be open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. It is closed on Friday, Saturday, and on public holidays. The entrance is free. However, The Petrosains Maker Studio at the same location will be temporarily closed until further notice due to safety purposes.
Petrosains PlaySmart is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its visitors. To provide a safe visit experience, Petrosains PlaySmart will be limiting visiting slots by capping it at less than 50% capacity and implement strict physical distancing measures. Petrosains PlaySmart has also taken all the necessary measures to prepare for the operations and ensure a very safe and secure environment for everyone. It has conducted stringent sanitising and disinfecting exercises and ensured all staff undergo COVID-19 testing prior to the opening. All necessary safety guidelines, in compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the relevant authorities, will also be stepped up.
Among the measures taken include allowing entry only to fully vaccinated individuals above the age of 18 which is in line with the Johor Public Library Corporation’s regulations. Those with vaccines requiring two doses such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac must have completed 14-days after their second dose vaccination, while those with one dose vaccines such as Johnson & Johnson or CanSino must have completed 28 days after their vaccination. Visitors will also be required to present their vaccine digital certificates, register using the MySejahtera app and undergo temperature screening before entering the premises.
Visitors must also wear a face mask at all times and practice good personal hygiene. Additionally, exhibits and visit areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

The health and safety of our visitors and staff will always be of utmost priority. With various precautionary measures in place, Petrosains PlaySmart hopes visitors will be reassured to have a safe and enjoyable visit.”
Petrosains PlaySmart was established to extend the science centre experience to communities outside of the Klang Valley and to bring Petrosains closer to these communities. Its mission is to bridge the gap between STEM and the community, improve STEM literacy and inspire people through engaging and imaginative learning experiences. Petrosains PlaySmart is equipped with interactive exhibits and offer engaging and scientific-based activities and programmes similar to activities organised at The Discovery Centre in Suria KLCC but on a smaller scale. While the Maker Studio is temporarily closed, the public can anticipate various hands-on fun activities at Petrosains PlaySmart Johor Bahru.
