The patients are selected for the programme after vetting and monitoring by the MSWD committees at different hospitals. The institutions involved are Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Hospital Sultan Ismail, Hospital Permai and Health Department of Johor Bahru District.
Sunway Iskandar has been sponsoring the initiative since 2018. For the 2020 edition, which took place on 10th December 2019, MSWDJB held the event at Sunway Iskandar’s Sales Gallery where 150 children and their families received a ‘Back to School’ kit. Another 150 children were also selected to receive their kits at a separate venue. In total, 300 children benefited from the programme which included RM90 in cash alongside the ‘Back to School’ kit.
Prior to partnering with Sunway Iskandar, MSWDJB has held the programme for nine consecutive years at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru whereby 50 children were aided every year.
Apart from the ‘Back to School’ kit, RM64,500 was also raised from the hospitals, institutions, and a few generous donors, with Sunway Iskandar leading the way with a RM45,000 contribution.
The event was officiated by Dr. Sal Atan, Deputy Director of Johor Health Department (Medical) alongside Abd Halim Haji Jamil, Head of Profession from MDSW Malaysia Health Ministry and Gerard Soosay, CEO of Sunway Iskandar.
McDonald’s contributed to the programme by providing lunch and vouchers, while transportation for all the recipients and their families was provided by Handal Indah Sdn. Bhd.
