Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort (Ponderosa) is one of the places that I remember, serving iconic Chinese dishes that lingers on my mind and on my taste buds!

In the excitement to usher the lively Year of the Horse this Chinese New Year, Yvonne, Marketing Communications consultant of Ponderosa Golf & Country Resort, had invited us to their much-anticipated Chinese New Year preview.

This time around, it is held at the Trading Post Ballroom, beautifully refreshed with a huge LCD screen and a stage, spacious area with a beautiful parquet floor. I was told a ballroom dance competition have held there in the final quarter of the 2025 with around one hundred people in attendance.

In a roundtable of 10 people, we tossed Ponderosa’s very own Mango Yee Sang to welcome the New Year with abundance of happiness. The glint of golden fruit slices in the shredded goods definitely gave us the vision of actual gold, euphemism of wealth.

The preview was a full-scale celebration on its own, so we had their Dynamic A set, priced RM988+ for 8 to 10 pax.

As the preview took place in the middle of the monsoon season, it was nice therefore, comforting to be served a bowl of hot FUGUI Herbal Stewed Chicken Soup, warming our body and prepped our taste buds with clean flavour of chicken’s essence minus any gamey taste, before trying the next dish.

Steamed Grouper with Minced Chilli

Auspicious during Chinese New Year, the Steamed Grouper with Minced Chilli made its grand entrance on our table; a dish that represents longevity and was an instant hit at our table. We finished the fish down to its bones and cleared the thick gravy for how tasty it was on our plates! I also loved the fact that it seeped through the meat and made the dish flavourful.

Jixiang Roasted Chicken

We were then treated to Jixiang Roasted Chicken. The soft texture of the chicken, crispy yet evenly roasted skin perfectly paired with the Prawn Crackers that made our table chatting over childhood memories reminiscing different times and how things are different now.

I doubled on the roasted chicken as I was not able to consume the lovely Braised Broccoli with Black Mushrooms that comes with Fish maw and Seafood Scallop, and the fragrant and delectable-looking Golden Prawns in Cream due to my allergy. Nevertheless, my fellow media colleagues revved about how delicious it was.

My favourite for the New Year was definitely the Lotus Leaf Fried Rice with Diced Chicken and Chestnuts! Ponderosa served one of the best in my book.

Wrapped in a huge beautiful lotus leaf, the savoury fried rice absorbed all the rich flavours and filled with goodness – the aroma itself filled my nostrils as I enjoyed the soft, chewy rice, and pleasant bits of chestnuts and chicken bits which made it even more fun to munch.

We ended our eventful dining with the sweet, and sticky steamed Nian Gao with Grated Coconut, another one of my personal must-haves.
